General Chapter

Břevnov - November 4, 2025

The regular General Chapter of the Slav Benedictine Congregation took place in Břevnov on 4 November 2025. On this occasion, the brethren also marked the 80th anniversary of the Congregation’s foundation. A special guest of the Chapter was Abbot Primate Jeremias Schröder OSB, whose presence expressed communion with the wider Benedictine Confederation.

In accordance with the Statutes of the Congregation, all members of the communities holding capitular rights within their own monasteries participated in the sessions.

The Chapter opened with reports from the monasteries and the presentation of several initiatives, including the newly proposed seal and coat of arms of the Congregation and its updated website. During the second morning session, Dr. Ondřej Koupil gave a concise historical overview of the Congregation’s eighty years. This was followed by a conference by Abbot Primate Jeremias Schröder OSB, who spoke about the role and significance of a monastic congregation in the life of its member monasteries—how it provides protection, support, and opportunities for cooperation. He encouraged the strengthening of mutual bonds and a deeper sense of shared identity. The session concluded with a short discussion among the participants.

In the afternoon, Abbot Primate Jeremias presided over the election of the President of the Congregation. Jeronim Adam Marin OSB, a Prior of Ćokovac, was re-elected for a new four-year term. The Chapter concluded with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Abbot Primate.
